Mel’s Sticky Jams: Spreading the Taste of Jamaica from Kingston to the World

Kingston, Jamaica — Nestled in the vibrant city of Kingston, Jamaica, Mel’s Sticky Jams has quickly become a beloved staple in the local food scene. With a dedication to crafting high-quality, fruit-forward jams that celebrate the island’s rich agricultural heritage, this family-owned business is making waves both locally and internationally.

Founded in Kingston by Melissa Tavares-Wilson who’s originally from Montego Bay, St. James , Mel’s Sticky Jams started as a small operation in her home kitchen. Mel, inspired by the abundant fresh fruits in Jamaica and her love for cooking, began creating her unique blends of jams that quickly gained popularity at local pop up fairs and fairs. She realized there wasn’t a wide variety of flavors on the market and wanted to create a high quality fruit jam that was all natural  and was vegan friendly. Her passion for quality and tradition led to the company’s rapid growth, with demand soon exceeding supply.

Recognizing the opportunity to reach more customers, Mel is focused on expanding  the business into a full-fledged production facility in Kingston. This move will allow Mel’s Sticky Jams to scale up its operations without compromising on quality. With a growing team of dedicated employees, the company has maintained its commitment to using only the freshest local fruits, ensuring that each jar of jam delivers an authentic taste of Jamaica.

Mel's Sticky Jams can be used to enhance several F&B items. From toast, to charcuterie boards, smoothies, grilled cheese sandwiches, hamburgers, seasoned meats, and even cocktails, it will make it all taste that much better!!!

A Taste of the Caribbean in Every Jar

What sets Mel’s Sticky Jams apart is its dedication to preserving the true essence of Jamaica’s fruits. Each jam is made with 100% natural ingredients, without any artificial preservatives or additives. The company offers a variety of flavors, from the classic strawberry and mango scotch bonnet to more adventurous blends like pineapple-ginger and jackfruit rosemary. These unique combinations reflect the diversity and vibrancy of Jamaican culture, making each jar a celebration of the island’s natural bounty.

Mel’s Sticky Jams has also embraced sustainability, sourcing its fruits from local farmers who practice eco-friendly farming methods. This not only supports the local economy but also ensures that the jams are as fresh and flavorful as possible.

Expansion into Supermarkets and Regional Markets

Building on its success in Kingston, Mel’s Sticky Jams is focused on  a major expansion into supermarkets across the island, bringing their products to a wider audience. The company’s jams will soon be available in leading supermarkets , making it easier for Jamaicans to enjoy their favorite flavors.

But the growth doesn’t stop there. Mel’s Sticky Jams has also set its sights on regional markets, with recent expansions into Trinidad and the Cayman Islands. This move marks a significant milestone for the company, as it brings the taste of Jamaica to new shores. “We’re thrilled to share a piece of Jamaica with our Caribbean neighbors,” says Mel. “Our jams are more than just a product; they’re a taste of home, a connection to our roots.”

The Future of Mel’s Sticky Jams

Looking ahead, Mel’s Sticky Jams has ambitious plans for further growth. The company is exploring opportunities to enter additional regional markets and even expand into North America. With its commitment to quality, sustainability, and authentic Jamaican flavors, Mel’s Sticky Jams is poised to become a household name far beyond the shores of Jamaica.

As Mel reflects on her journey starting in her home to being on the brink of being on shelves across the Caribbean, she remains dedicated to her original vision: to create delicious, high-quality jams that bring people together. “At the end of the day, it’s about sharing something special with the world,” Mel says. “Sharing a little sweetness from my home to yours”.
